As the Minister of Education, it seems Peter Fassbender demands that school boards return all funding that had been allocated for the operation of schools that were closed during the strike.
(So far, SD71 – Comox Valley and SD23 – Central Okanagan have been confirmed as being required to return the funds, but it is unlikely such a ministry policy would not apply to all school districts. UPDATED: This has now been confirmed. CBC Kelowna has a copy of the Ministry of Education memo — a policy of 100% clawback, less expenses, is province-wide. Follow @ChrisWalkerCBC for more info.)
Yet at the very same time the schools were closed, Peter closed his office for nearly three weeks. This while his constituents sat outside and waited to speak to him about BC’s public schools. This office is paid for by tax dollars — Peter receives a budget as an MLA for an office and staff to provide services to his community.
So our question for Peter is: When can we expect you will return the funds paid to you for the operation of your constituency office?
